Hiking in the Vallée Étroite
The Vallée Étroite is located in the Hautes-Alpes department, on the French-Italian border, at the foot of Mont Thabor (3,178 m). It borders the Clarée Valley and offers exceptional views for 4 days snowshoe trek. Your route
Meet in Bardonecchia (Italy) at 11:00 a.m. Reception at the Bardonecchia Olympic Village (address in the Practical Information section). Presentation of the programme and departure for Pian Del Colle, on the French-Italian border. At the start, we walk through larch trees and along the Vallée Étroite stream to reach the Terzo Alpini refuge. In the afternoon, we practise using avalanche transceivers (avalanche victim detectors) in groups. • Ascent : 300 m - Descent : 0 m - 4.5 km (3 hours’ walking) • Meals included : dinner at Terzo Alpini mountain hut • Night : Terzo Alpini mountain hut
For this second stage, we leave the farms of the Vallée Étroite, nestled beneath the peaks of Melchior, Gaspard, and Balthazar. We make our way through the Tavernette valley to the Col de la Vallée Étroite and reach the Thabor mountain hut. • Ascent : 700 m - Descent : 0 m - 7;5 km (5h30 to 6 hours’ walking) • Meals included : breakfast at Terzo Alpini mountain hut. Lunchtime picnic. Dinner at Thabor mountain hut • Night : Thabor mountain hut
Starting from the Thabor mountain hut, we leave Lac Rond behind and head toward the summit of Château Léger, perched at 2,645 meters, before descending into the Vallon de la Dame to Lac Peyron. We reach the Col des Méandes at 2,722 meters, then descend into the Vallon du Dîner. We then reach the Prat du Plan and continue on to the old Blanchet Mine. We reach the Vallée Étroite and its i Re Magi mountain hut for the night. • Ascent : 400 m - Descent : 1100 m - 11 km (6h30 to 7 hours’ walking) • Meals included : breakfast at Thabor mountain hut.
